Studio One Eighty Nine partnered with Bedoum Forest to launch a project to grow and harvest plants that produce natural dyes. The project has allowed us to create employment opportunities particularly for the women in the forests, to support the environment, avoid the use of toxins often times found in synthetic dyes and to support and preserve the traditional art of indigo.
Studio One Eighty Nine also collaborates with artisan communities in Mali, Burkina Faso and the Northern region of Ghana to create Indigo textiles. This close collaboration allows us to support the development and economic independence of local communities, creating jobs and supporting education, while promoting African culture with our handcrafted indigo garments.
